Essential Expenses

Give a Man a Fish, He’ll Eat for a Day
(sell a man a fish at a competitive price, he’ll spend for a lifetime)

In the United States, we have a tradition of shelves being stocked to the brim as providers rush to fulfill our needs and niches at a competitive price. However, as knowledge becomes more prevalent concerning how the proverbial McNugget is made, we have adopted a new tradition of uncomfortable uncertainty regarding what it is we are actually consuming. This has led to unceasing expansion of our markets, and a paralyzing level of choice in what we buy geared to a wide gradient of health and hyperethical preferences.

No matter a person’s situation, our basic expenses remain the same: food, clothes, and hygiene. In order to reliably have what we need for good times and during crises, it helps to have at least a basic understanding of what those needs are and how they reach consumers.
