Birth Certificate

A birth certificate is a document detailing the time, place, and to whom a person was born. While it is not the first piece of paperwork to do so, it is the one assembled, officiated, and kept on file by the region’s Office of Vital Statistics, or the Department of State. In that way, the birth certificate is the foundational document securing a person’s rights and privileges as a natural-born US citizen.
